School Zone Safety

PublishingPageContent

As we approach the middle of the term, it is a timely reminder for our school community to continue following the road rules and stay mindful of traffic regulations when using the school zone to keep everyone safe. Parents and carers are also asked to help reduce congestion in our school zones by adhering to parking signs and no stopping zones, as well as ensuring compliance with requirements in the Stop, Drop, and Go zones.

The Queensland Police Service has provided the following important reminders:

  • Stop, drop and go zones allow a maximum time of two minutes and you MUST remain with your vehicle. If your child doesn’t present within those two minutes, you must move on.

  • If the stop, drop and go zone is full you cannot block traffic with your indicator on waiting to enter the zone. If it is full, do another lap.

  • Consider using the zone slightly later, especially if you have older children. The high volume of traffic starts to clear around 10 minutes after the school bell has rung.

  • Remind your children to look for you and be quick getting to the car

  • Ensure that you observe and adhere to speed limits and parking signs in your school zone.

Local police will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in school zones, closely observing speed, parking, Stop, Drop, and Go zones, and pedestrian crossings to ensure the safety of everyone

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe.
