Trinity Bay State High School expects every student will attend school each day of the school year unless prevented by reasonable circumstances from doing so.

At Trinity Bay SHS student attendance is a high priority.  Regular school attendance gives students a better chance at life.  Students achieve better when they go to school al day, every day because:

  • They have increased access to learning opportunities
  • They maintain friendships
  • They stay connected to the curriculum progression
  • They develop self-efficacy as a learner
  • They have better long-term life outcomes

The Trinity Bay SHS attendance expectation for Junior Schooling (years 7, 8 & 9) is 90%.  The expectation for Senior Schooling (years 10, 11 & 12) is 94%.  Students must be in the right place and on time, including Form Class and Assembly.  Missing Form Class or Assembly can have a significant impact on a student's attendance as seen below.  100% attendance a day is made up of:

  • Form Class / Assembly = 20%
  • Period 1 = 20%
  • Period 2 = 20%
  • Period 3 = 20%
  • Period 4 = 20%
  • TOTAL = 100%

In person: Please see staff at Student Services.

The school must be contacted on the day of any student absence and every day after that i.e. if you have let us know that your child is going to be unwell for two days but they end up having a third day off the school has to be contacted again on the third day.  Your message is recorded against the student for whom the text was sent for, don't forget to include names of any siblings.  The school attendance system will record all student absences as unexplained until notified by a Parent/Guardian.  If a student has a prolonged absence for illness (3 days or more) this will need to be supported by a medical certificate.

Exemptions:

Give forewarning of known future absences, in particular long term absences.  Absences that are 11 days or more could be exempted subject to Principal approval.  Please contact the Attendance Officer to enquire.

If your child is late:

If your child is late, they must report to Student Services to sign in where they will receive a late note to take to class.  An explanation must be received by the parent/guardian either by phone/SMS/email/Q Parents/note explaining the reason.  If no explanation is given the late pass will stay in the system as an unexplained late for the student.

If your child needs to depart early:

Parents/Guardians are to notify the school in advance of any early departures communicating the time of departure, pick up location and the reason.  Notification of departure for a student can only be done by SMS/email/Q Parents or a written note to Student Services.  Students must sign out and collect a leave pass from Student Services before they leave the school grounds.

Exiting TBSHS:

Please speak to the Attendance Officer about exiting your student from the school.  All resources must be handed back to the school before departure (Library books/Laptops).  Make sure your bank details are up to date with the school in case of a refund (speak to Finance).  All students remain enrolled at Trinity Bay SHS until they are attending their new school or chosen pathway.  Please ensure you notify Trinity Bay SHS when your child has commenced their next educational pathway.

Trinity Bay SHS – Absent letters:

The Trinity Bay SHS absent letters are a system generated letter that picks up any unexplained whole day absences.  These are days a student has been absent, but the reason is unexplained.   The absent letters are emailed to Parents/Guardians every Term in weeks 3, 6 and 9.  It would be appreciated if Parent/Guardians could email back with a reason, this will enable unexplained absences to be cleared.  If you have any issues, please contact the Attendance Officer.

Trinity Bay SHS Clearance:

Trinity Bay SHS Attendance Clearance is 87%.  This is the minimum attendance percentage requirement for a student to be able to attend camps/excursions/formal/TCC and Peninsula try outs.  Curriculum based excursions are exempted from the clearance threshold i.e. going to Fitzroy Island for Marine Biology.

If a student is falling under clearance by up to 12% you will receive an email (the TBSHS Nudge Note) in weeks 2 and 8 letting you know, giving you a chance to chat with your child to rectify the situation.  If we can help or support your child in any way, please contact your child's Year Level Coordinator or the Attendance Officer.

Senior students that are 12% under clearance run the risk of being on stage one of Cancellation of Enrolment.

Students are able to access information in relation to their attendance through their Year Level coordinators, the Attendance Officer or Student Services.
