In the Languages Other Than English department (LOTE) we value the richness of human diversity. We aim to show our students that Languages Other Than English are a means of communicating across cultures and of broadening their world view. To make the study of LOTE an exciting adventure, learning experiences that have connectedness to the “real world” are our emphasis. In Japanese, our students have many opportunities to develop their skills by interacting with native speakers at school, in the homestay environment, through participation in our enormously popular biennial trip to Japan and through participation in state, national and international competitions. In Auslan, we equip students with a very real and highly sought after skills that enables them to interact with deaf students and the wider Australian Deaf Community.
