Home Economics can no longer be seen as just “cookin’ and sewin’….today it addresses the very important issues of diet and health by teaching students to select and prepare health – promoting foods in keeping with current Government initiatives to fight obesity, heart disease and diabetes in our community.
In addition, students may work towards their Queensland Certificate of Education through an academic course in Home Economics or study Certificate II and III in Hospitality (Operations) or Certificate III in Children’s Services through partnership agreements with TAFE and MY OTHER MUM.
These courses are highly successful and offer students practical opportunities to gain skills in the workplace. Work experience and work placement in industry provide challenges and build skills and confidence which helps prepare students to make that transition from school to work or further study with ease and confidence.
Home Economics is an exciting and innovative subject area that constantly responds to new initiatives and trends in the community and workplace by offering subjects that give students valuable skills for life and future employment / study.
